Big news for H.W. Mountz School!

The Spring Lake Borough Board of Education officially approved Dr. Carlos M. Gramata, Jr. as our new Superintendent/Principal at last night’s meeting. With 24 years in public education and a strong background in instructional leadership, character education, and supporting students and staff, Dr. Gramata brings a wealth of experience to our district. We’re excited to welcome him to the Mountz community and look forward to this next chapter together.

NJSLA-A Testing Update

Please note:
• Students who are absent on a testing day will be scheduled for a make-up session
• Due to the adaptive nature, if a student misses day 1 of reading or math, they will need to make up day 1 and day 2 sessions during the make-up window.
• We kindly ask that families avoid scheduling appointments or vacations during this time when possible
• Students should come to school well-rested and ready to do their best

We appreciate your support in helping students be present and ready during this time.

Bike to School Day was a great success this morning! Students, families, and staff kicked off the day with a stop at Tom Bailey’s Market for breakfast before riding together to school. A special thank you to the wonderful Spring Lake Police Department for providing a safe escort along the route. With beautiful weather and so much community spirit, it was the perfect way to start the day!

This week, our 8th graders had the opportunity to step outside the classroom and into our local community for a hands-on learning experience. As part of their Spanish studies, they visited Pick’s Latin Grocery in Belmar, where they practiced their language skills in a real-world setting by requesting items in Spanish.

It was a great way to bring classroom learning to life—building confidence, making authentic connections, and seeing how language can be used beyond school walls. A fun, engaging, and memorable day of learning in action!

Join the Conversation That Matters.

Our amazing PTA is hosting a book talk on The Amazing Generation—a powerful graphic novel that dives into the impact of smartphones and social media on our kids, while also highlighting the incredible power this generation has to rewrite the narrative and take control of their lives.

Though written with students in mind, this book carries important, eye-opening messages for all of us.

Lots of wonder, laughter, and wide-eyed excitement… a day we won’t forget anytime soon! 🌊😊

Sunshine, smiles, and lots of hands-on learning made this Friday a great one at Mountz! ☀️ Students were busy exploring, creating, and discovering—including our 8th-grade Annual Egg Drop, where students took part in an engineering design challenge applying concepts of forces and motion to design devices that could protect their egg from impact. 🥚🚀

With the sun shining and spring just around the corner, it was the perfect day for active learning. 🌷

Don’t forget—our Open House is tomorrow from 9–11 AM! Come see what makes Mountz such a special place to learn and grow. 💙

✨ Innovation, teamwork, and creativity in action! ✨
Students were highly engaged during yesterday’s sending-district convocation, working in teams to design a prosthetic limb from the knee down that a teammate could wear and use to walk 20 feet. It was impressive to see their creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration as they tested ideas and refined their designs throughout the challenge. Thanks to Avon Elementary for hosting!
